Abid Butt joined Dream Hotel Group in October 2017 as Chief Executive Officer for Asia, Middle East and Africa. In this role, Butt is responsible for the continued growth and global expansion of the company and its portfolio of brands—Dream Hotels, Time Hotels, The Chatwal and Unscripted Hotels—in established and emerging urban and resort destinations in Asia, Middle East and Africa.
With more than 30 years of global experience in the hospitality industry, Butt brings a keen knowledge of organizational design and implementation to Dream Hotel Group. Prior to joining the group, Butt served as Chief Executive Officer of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, where he was accountable for defining brand voice and delivering brand promise,while developing an infrastructure to facilitate the company’s growth. His strategic acumen and drive to innovate was also instrumental in the launch of several hospitality brands by Banyan Tran, including: Four Points, Angsana, Dhawa and Cassia. He also served as Vice President of Asset Management for Host Hotels & Resorts, where he was responsible for the preservation and asset enhancement of a portfolio of hotels through disciplined capital deployment and operating efficiencies.
An engaged professional dedicated to making a difference, Butt is an ambassador for the industry, having frequently spoken at global conferences and having served as an advisor for several industry organizations. He was also part of the faculty of Georgetown University’s Leadership in Hospitality program. He holds an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration in International Hotel &Tourism Management from Johnson &Wales University, a Master of Science in Real Estate from the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University,a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix,and double Bachelor of Science degrees in Food Service Management and Hotel,Restaurant & Institutional Management from Johnson & Wales University.
